Kew Gardens 100 Tile Project

The Kew Gardens Improvement Association, Inc. was awarded a New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods Grant by the Citizens Committee for New York City. The grant is subsidizing a local tile installion and is open to residents five-years-of-age and up, and also to others who work or have associations in the community. It was an honor to host this event on May 22nd. Participants included the studio's potters, of course. Applications have been snapped up at a brisk pace.
On Sunday, May 22, the Potter's Wheel in Kew Gardens hosted the 100 Tile Project, where residents from ages five to 105 gathered around to create their own idea of home on 4.5-by-4.5-inch tiles.

The tiles will soon become part of a 5-by-5-foot outdoor permanent installation in Kew Gardens for all to admire. The neighborhood was chosen by the Citizens Committee for New York City to receive a New Yorkers for Better Neighborhoods grant, enabling the project to take off. The $2,750 grant was awarded on Sunday by the Citizens
Committee NYC.

The Kew Gardens Improvement Association chose to intall the mural at the LIRR station for it's visability. The station has been around for 100 years- one year for each resident that painted a tile. Long Island Rail road installed the mural.
