I've always been influenced by the spontaneity, movement and energy of the abstract expressionist painters. Early on, my work was colorful with lots of nature-influenced patterns. Over the years, I have distilled the ideas to a more simplified style of ceramics. Now, I would count architectural design as an additional influence.

Either way, I try to remember to have form follow function, while trying to create something new each time. Although repetition can garner perfection, my personality barely lets me drive the same route twice, let alone make true duplicates. I believe the beauty is in the nuanced "imperfections" that the hand of the potter, and the quality of the clay at a particular time impart on the finished piece.
